The Turners saga

An epic literary fantasy saga set in a matriarchal world.

It starts with
the wheel
of the year…

The Wheel must turn.

This single mandate dictates the work of the otherworldly Coven of the Keepers.

Within the world itself, though, things are coming undone as the queens of the Cardinal Lands declare war upon witchery.

Witches, of course, will always fight back.

A Five-book
epic saga

The Keepers introduces a world where magic is real and larger than anyone in the world conceives, and explores the beginnings of witches being hunted for being who they are (2026).

The Burners delves into the Burning Times, when the witch hunts turn to burnings of true and suspected witches, while otherworldly witches of great power confront long-held truths (2027).

Books three, four, and five will follow. Each will expand upon the world, the Burning Times, and the troubles of the great Wheel of the Year. Lives and crowns are at stake…and so is magic itself.

Novellas released from Quills and Cosmos between novels will deepen the lore, taking readers into other lands and perspectives.
Additional in-world short stories and collections will be released in the author’s newsletter on Substack starting late 2026.

Sanverra sits at the heart of the Cardinal Lands

Ruled by Queen Daphne Sanverre, this land is the geographical center of the Cardinal Lands and Lower Lands.

Floutsburg, in the south, is under Queen Enyo’s rule

Oso Arvha is the eastern land led by Queen Meredith

Oestre lies to the west, ruled by the secretive Queen Beatrice

Narvha lies to the north, under Prince Kingsley’s rule

These lands are each rich in their own ways, matriarchal societies with generations of powerful queens writing their histories, leading their people, and working alongside the witches of their local Covens of the Grounded.

The Lower Lands too have their Low Queens, their societies, their Covens of the Grounded.

None of them know of the magic greater than they could possibly conceive, the power that turns their seasons and takes from their experiences to do so…

Outside the world is a witches’ domain called, simply,
Elsewhere

The Coven of the Keepers is home to the nine most powerful living witches:

Three Maidens
Three Matrons
Three Crones

They have but one mandate:
Turn the Wheel of the Year

They harness enhanced experiences from the people of the world to do so, amplifying joys or sorrows as the Wheel demands.

book one:
The Keepers

The Turners saga begins in
The Keepers

The Keepers is available now from Quills and Cosmos Press.

Reviewers have this to say:

“There is so much richness to "The Keepers." The characters, the world-building, the intersection of storylines and lives-- all woven together into a carefully crafted tapestry. It is a story of self-discovery, self-acceptance, growth and change and the reality of consequences, set against a backdrop of a world filled with misunderstanding, suspicion, and fear. While it may feel like a familiar formula-- or a clear reflection of the world in which we find ourselves-- Goehrke crafts each element with intention, allowing them to both stand on their own and to interact in meaningful ways.”

“Goehrke’s debut epic fantasy delivers a beautiful, brutal, and dynamic world written in lush prose and guided by complex characters. The story follows several plot threads all steered by the actions of characters. While magical, it is a human story, exploring how the choices we make shape, or cannot shape, the world.”

“This beautifully written debut literary fantasy swept me away. Set in Sanverra, a kingdom ruled by queensyet (sic) shaped by witches who answer to no crown, it’s afresh take on a matriarchal society filled with tension, found family, and serious twists. “

Novellas set during/before book one:

  • The Potioneer — exclusive early access for pre-orders; available now from the author at select events; future availability TBA

    • The Potioneer is a romantasy (unlike the rest of The Turners Saga!) sharing the story of Lace and Gerard, two witches of the Coven of the Grounded of Sanverra. It takes place just before and during the first half of The Keepers and can be read before or after the novel.

  • The Spoke — coming soon-ish from Quills and Cosmos Press

    • The Spoke is a look at Iris’ time in the Coven of the Keepers, delving into secrets alluded to during The Keepers. This novella contains major spoilers to The Keepers and should be read only after finishing the novel.

book Two:
The Burners

The Turners saga continues in
The Burners

The Burners is coming in 2027 from Quills and Cosmos Press.
