New truths and old assumptions twist together as Queen Daphne, whose death should have turned the Wheel, lives. Not unscathed, though; Daphne realizes that witches were involved in her near loss of life and vows her revenge on witchkind.

Another witch’s plea moves Aleris to tempt fate a second time, interrupting another death that should have been.

The Burning Times approach in this first book of a potential saga, following Aleris and her Coven of witches as well as Daphne and those who have no magic and instead fear it.
